Measures we’re taking

  • Our staff are skilled in infection control and the use of PPE if required.
  • Strict hygiene practices are used and all sites require visitor screening to be completed prior to entry.
  • All UnitingSA aged care homes have restricted visitor access to keep our residents and team safe.
  • All group programs have been cancelled in line with SA Health’s social distancing guidelines. 
  • All residential aged care staff undertake temperature checks at the beginning of their shift.

COVID-19 Care Campaign

Whether it’s someone who’s lost their job, struggling to keep a roof over their head or pay their bills and buy food, help us support those who need it most – not only now but in the aftermath of COVID-19.

We are seeking urgent monetary donations, of as little as $2, to purchase items of critical need, including vouchers for food, personal hygiene products, warm clothing and bedding.

Aged care visitor restrictions

In March 2020, the State Government announced aged care visitor restrictions to help combat the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the safety of elderly residents.

These restrictions are regularly reviewed and must be implemented by all Residential Aged Care facilities in SA.

The restrictions are set out in the government’s Emergency Management (Residential Aged Care Facilities) (COVID-19) Direction 2020.

Please take note of the below visitor guidelines:

  • Visits must be pre-booked ahead of time by phoning your aged care home
  • A maximum of two visitors are permitted to visit a resident at one time, per day
  • Visits are restricted to immediate family members and support people
  • All visits should be limited to a maximum of two hours and occur between 10am and 4pm daily
  • Visits must be conducted in a resident’s room, outdoors or other designated area (not communal spaces)
  • Visitors are asked to practise ‘physical distancing’, including maintaining a distance of
  • 1.5 metres where possibleVisitors must provide photo ID and proof of influenza vaccination to enter an aged care facility (babies under six months are exempt)

All visitors to our homes will also continue to undergo temperature checking and a COVID-19 screening questionnaire on arrival to ensure the following people do not enter:

  • Those who have returned from overseas, or been in contact with an international traveller, in the past 14 days
  • Those who have been in Victoria in the past 14 days
  • Those who have been in contact with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past 14 days
  • Those who are waiting to receive COVID-19 test results
  • Those with fever and/or symptoms of respiratory infection (i.e. cough, sore throat, shortness of breath)acility (babies under six months are exempt)

The campaign aims to reduce the risk to individuals and families by enabling them to make informed decisions and to take up health recommendations.

Supporting your wellbeing

As the nation’s journey through COVID-19 continues and its far-reaching implications continue to unfold in our community, it’s normal for people to experience a wide range of thoughts, feelings and reactions.

If you notice a change in the way that you, or others around you, are thinking or feeling, there are things that you can do to maintain positive mental health:

  • Maintain your normal daily routine
  • Connect with family and friends and other supports in your community, using technology if needed
  • Look after yourself through exercise, regular nutritious meals and a good night’s sleep
  • Ensure you have some time out to relax and unwind and do activities that you enjoy
  • Talk with your doctor or a counsellor if needed
